Taylor Swift Reporter Cover Letter

As you may or may not know, I quit my corporate job with no backup plan (or insurance) because I was being exploited. While trusting in myself and trying to figure out what the next best step for me is, I came across something divine. My little brother (inside and out he's better than I am) sent me a link to apply to a Taylor Swift reporter role. YES YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY! Wow! If you didn't believe in divine timing before, you should now because this is the kind of thing that happens in movies.

So, I applied and decided to share the cover letter here.

Hello,

Thank you for creating such a wonderful opportunity, I am thankful even for the ability your job posting has given me to dream of what my life would be like on your team, in this role.

I will help the fandom stop being obsessed with Taylor’s personal life and concentrate on her art. For example, the circulation of paparazzi pictures. We KNOW she doesn’t like being followed like that and it’s 2 seconds the girl is just trying to get into her car! She’s gone to extreme lengths such as traveling in suitcases and cleaning carts to avoid it.

Fandoms need to stop being about the recycling of this past toxic culture where we all consume the content that the celebrities we claim to love, tell us hurts them. Reposting videos of Taylor walking to her car from her home, having her personal space invaded to the point that she needs to put her hands up and say back up to paparazzi is helping the people exploiting her, not her. Taylor has made it clear that being exploited is something that she is setting a clear boundary about. Why are so many Swifties not respecting that boundary?

Taylor Swift is an artist who has worked diligently on her art and sacrificed a lot to get to the place she is at in her career. She has been re-recording her masters to release the unfair grip of a greedy man from her life’s work. Sharing vault tracks which include many Swiftie requests along the way (ATW 10 min version) and dedicating years of her life to a tour to be with us as much as she can be. Why do we think it’s okay to force her into more?

Hi, it’s Swifties. We’re the problem. It’s us.

There is an infinite universe of conversations to have around Taylor’s music alone, but she is so multi faceted that we also have; creating a tour, being a boss, directing a music video, directing a short film, having a personal brand, business, creative writing and that is only naming a very few! The conversations in the media that cover Taylor right now follow an old and quite frankly toxic relationship between fans and artists.

If there’s one thing we Swifties take pride in with Taylor is her ability to inspire change and fight for what’s right. How gorgeous would it be if we returned the favor?

A few weeks ago I quit my corporate job at Apple and sent a 6 page resignation letter to all members of leadership that I had come in contact with along with the head of HR explaining what detrimental effects their exploitation of me has had on my physical and mental health and overall quality of life over the past 8 years. I quit with no other job and a loss of my health insurance plan. I have been trying to figure out what to do and this once in a lifetime opportunity presented its self at the one and only perfect time it could have.

Taylor is 13 days older than me (if she was born before 5:13pm haha) and I have been a fan since the first morning I heard Tim McGraw on the country radio tv station I listed to while getting ready for a day of my sophomore year of high school. That song kicked off my 17 year and counting love and appreciation for Taylor Swift’s artistry and music. I was a fan back before you could get her new albums online at midnight and went to a local 24/7 Wal-Mart and was the first in line at Target the morning they opened. I have been to every tour of Taylor’s except 1989 because the week she was in my area I was down south seeing my little brother get home from deployment. I was a fan when it wasn’t cool to be a Swiftie, I have gotten in public arguments with radio dj’s who think it’s appropriate to comment on her dating life and endured the ridiculous situation that was 2016. My life has been anything but easy and if you’d like to learn more, I recently started my own YouTube channel, Memoirs of an American Girl.

One love that has always been consistent since it came into my life is Taylor Swift’s music and I would love nothing more than to not only cover The Eras Tour and her music, but to help shape the fandom into something that will not only make Taylor proud, but like her will change the world and make it a better place for everyone.

I have so many ideas to help build this vision with you and I’m excited to talk with you more about my skills and ambition for this role.

Warmest and kind regards,

Amanda Jordan
